All MCERC programs require completion of the release forms and your signature on an agreement of terms under which the programs operate. Your research is important. What’s more important is the ability to convey your research in a meaningful way to intended readers. This six-week course will provide you with detailed experience writing for scientific publication. MCERC will assign you a project based on interest or you can propose a project to faculty which grabs your interest. Working in pairs or small groups, you will work with data to work through the process of creating a full journal article for faculty review through guided assignments. 

Who should join?

  • Self-motivated, hard-working individuals wishing to gain experience in research methods and writing
  • Those contemplating applications to attend graduate school or veterinary school
  • Undergraduates and graduate students are welcome

Who: Everyone planning a career, internship, or graduate school program in fields related to marine science, marine biology, and ecology.

Why: You want to be able to be prepared to apply for those amazing opportunities in the highly competitive fields of marine science, marine biology, ecology and related fields when you apply for the position

What: You can Join the Marine and Coastal Ecology Research Center (MCERC) faculty and staff for a seminar series focused on supporting your preparation for job, internship, and graduate school applications.

Instruction and discussions via Zoom dedicated to help you put your best introduction forward by creating effective communication via CVs, letter of interest, and email correspondence.

When: 4, 4-hour sessions scheduled to be available. Different time zones will be accommodated as more program sessions are posted later in the (northern) fall. See the schedule at the bottom of this announcement for this program session.

Where: When you register you will be set up to receive Zoom link and password for the MCERC meeting room for the program.

How: Go the MCERC Home page and navigate to the Education Hub.

          Create a free account for the Education Hub if you do not already have one.

          Click on the “Open For Enrollment” section on the Education Hub Home Page.

          Click on the “CV Seminar – Your Personal Marketing Package” to register and enroll.

The program has a limited number of spaces available. All people who register will receive the link and password needed to enter each meeting about 1 hour prior to the start of that session. 

This seminar program consists of instruction, presentations, vignettes, examples, and may include guests to join in the final meeting for a discussion of their experience reviewing applications and interviewing candidates for positions in marine related venues. Participants will not have assignments or homework. Exercises and quizzes will be placed in the program session for practice and guidance.
